Variables are used to deal with content such as text and values that change over time. Many features in terRemote support variable substitution. Each variable has a name and a value. You can access this value via the expression '${...}' where the name of your variable is between the braces. By convention, variable names should only contain lower case letters, digits and periods.'

Functions can be used in string evaluation, e.g. to perform calculations or change content depending on variable contents. They are always used in the form $functionname{argument1,argument2,...}.
